Radicalism not dangerous

On this occasion it may may bot be altogether amiss to
advert to the French Revolution and the conduct observed
by the lower orders in relation to property when they the power of disposing of
it was in their hands. In these hands then was the power
of effecting this supposed universal subversion of the right of
"property". Their subversion was it then affected? no was it
so much as proposed?? by any b prepared by any body? No:
nor for aught appears, so much as thought of. Property Expropriation
and was so a vast amount was no doubt madeundoubtably.
indeed taken take from the proprietors. Taken? yes: but
to whom given? not to individuals: but to the public: &
the public for the purposes and for what purpose of national and necessary defence. No grants
of lands or money to any individuals: no fortunes made by any of the leaders. no
fortune made by any one but in the lottery of commercial
speculation there in civil war, as amas here in
ordinary war. The fortunes property of individuals seized and
sold as above. Yes: but the of what individuals? of those
only who by their flight at from home and conspiracies abroad
had manifested themselves enemies. Property yes, not
even in this case no property in immoveables only: no
universal confiscation there as here: no confiscation
of immoveables. The property of the churchmen church indeed universally
seized and put to sale. Yes but the property of the
Church was not the property of the Churchmen who were in possession
of it: they were but occupants of it for life. To them
the hardship of being deprived of it was no doubt a cruel
one: and they were more hardly dealt with than justice
admitted and perhaps then necessity required. But thereafter
Church property was a trust: and that trust had been generally the relief of which the
produce proceeds was applied
