III. Experience II Ireland
6 §.2. Democrat ascendency, how
Suppose to be the oppressed and not here the oppressor
9
By men considering
the governance in this
view it could not be
considered as any thing
better than robbery:
differing from depredation
so called only
in being irresistible,
unavoidable, unpunishable,
its turpitude
cloaked by the name
and supported by the
force of law.
In the eyes of a class of persons by whom the
government of the country is viewed from any such situation it is
not in the nature of the case it is not in the nature of man
and things that the government should be considered in any
light more advantageous respectable than that of a system of regular
robbery, differing nothing not differing from the mode of depredation so called
distinguished by that name or any thing circumstance but that of its being irresistible
unpunishable and unavoidable and unpunishable, and
cloaking its turpitude with the name, as well as supporting
it by the force of law.
