ascendency, its
causes.

Pretty effectually accomplished
the two great
objects — parliamentary
and commercial emancipation:
but the already
had the views of
the associates become
in several places
exhibited.

Of the old form of oppression
part had indeed been
removed, but for the experience
of this
no effectual security had
as yet place.

1. The restraint
under to which the industry of the people country had been cramped, and
indignity entailed upon it under the avowed notion of giving advantage
to the one country domineering country at the expense and
to the prejudice of the other had indeed to a considerable degree
at least been removed: and thus far, in a manner
still more obvious that that of the aristocratical ruling few the democratical interest
of the subject many had been served.

had been sworn
almost to exchange
democratical parliamentary
emancipation
From subordinate the
aristocracy had become
supreme; and thus security
for this was entire.

power which the by its legislative Parliament and its Executive Council Board Great
Britain had been in use to exercise over Ireland the Irish Legislature had been
given up: and in this particular again in an indirect way the whole subject many
[but though much more immediately and sensibly that of the ruling
few the aristocracy of Ireland] had been served. But in under
this particular this head the benefit to the aristocratical democratical interest had
been as manifest compleat and unequivocal incompleat and equivocal as that to the democratical
had been incompleat and equivocal: compleat and indubitable/sensible From subordinate
the power of the aristocracy had become supreme: and
as against all future attacks invasion from the British Parliament, it had
by the public spirit and firmness of the people of Ireland obtained such a security as without
prejudice to discernment
might be voted on with
confidence.
