Grattan hypocritical

Behold at one the blindness of self interest and the unsuitability
of ambition! The profit of protecting all this many the many over not
maybe for the man without the glory of refusing it

In addition to this order of his noble friends silence , Mr Grattan had
another of his own but too much a use in Ireland. This is the
trying to kill threat of affray an opponent on condition of letting the opponent try to kill
him the offering for the chance of letting the opponent, the chance of
being killed by him. Turning to Sheridan's Index I find this note
of argumentation is employed in his instances by Mr Grattan

cloak by which every other quality by which human nature can be
shewed and disgraced can be covered.
