In our Court Judicatory alone — the Court of Chancery — seven and twenty millions of
other men's money constantly in the hands of the harpies of the
law. Is not that Those same subversion of the These same rights of property
is this that in subversion of them? there is not that subversion
enough? Where is the any such subversion to be found
in any of the United States? how much of it would remain,
if radicalism had what it seeks — if, with Monarch and Lords remaining as they are if democratic ascendency
had place? democratic democracy had having that ascendency what
without which the greatest happiness of the greatest number
is impossible.

If case should Under the existing order of things, should complaint ever be made, every man
of law who has a name is ready with his certificate
that the fault lies — not in the state of the law, but in the nature
of the case. and for the contrary it when
let proof to demonstration be given to the contrary be given the empty-handed
lawyers with whom certain houses are filled are too
large and weak and to be able to comprehend it, and too
lazy to endure to look at it. They had rather run the
risk, than be at the trouble of securing themselves
against it: and taking the whole together, such are though this conception of the whole
were ever so adequate, such as the sweets of despotism, what is wanting to those in
the article of security for themselves is made up for,
and more than made up for, in the faculty of tyranny
over other others.
