The sources As for the character, ascribed to the English which in the short retrospect has been an

history of a period of several centuries, compared with

For As to the facts belonging to the particular portion of
time in question, the sources they have been drawn from
are these: Mr Hardy's Memoirs of the late Earl of
Charlemont, London 1810: 2. Mr Plowden's History of
Ireland to the Union of 1801, published in 1803: and
3. Mr Adolphus's History of England from the accession
of George the third to the peace of 1783. published
in 1 .

In that list the foremost place is occupied by the
work publication of Mr Hardy. Lord Charlemont the subject of it
his was the chief President of that Convention.

publication was posterior by several years posterior to
that of Mr Plowden, and the author informed of
sound history and matters of detail, pregnant
with much instruction and such as could not
