Radicalism not dangerous

*
III Experience
II Ireland
§. leaders

or 1
Position 1. Leaders
aristocratic disproves,
not ascendency democratic:
this being proved
above.

(1)
Position

The fact, that the Volunteers universally or generally had for their
leaders, had for their commanders men in the higher and
even in the highest ranks of in life, does not prove that
the ascendency thus produced obtained was not democratic ascendency
that the Volunteers were in corresponding proposition
of such as would have votes under a system
of virtually universal suffrage. For that there it as
far as appears there is reason sufficient reason in favour of the affirmative for thinking that they ever
have just been made apparent.

or 2
2. But proven that,
affection supposes
accordant, chance of
being chosen is as
height in scale of
power, factitious dignity
and opulence

On the other hand what it does prove afford an example is and that
most incontestably is that it is in the nature of the
case that by the great body of the people — by the
lower orders — by the subject many the chance which on one occasion of this sort a man who all persons who
are not regarded as hostile in their affection hostile
to the supposed what is regarded as the interest and is thereby conformable consonant to
the interest of the people has of becoming the object
of their desire is always encreased by the height
which his condition in life has on the joint seals
of power, factitious dignity and opulence.

or 3
3. This is sufficient
assurance against
fears of subversion
of property

In particular in so far as concerns opulence, the
propensity to make choice give their h on those occasions on the part of those on the burthen
of that state to take prefer for their leaders those who are at
the top of it will would when sufficiently considered be afford of itself
a sufficient assurance against all apprehension
of a disposition on the part of the people to effect any subversion
the right general or particular of the rights of property.
