Ignominious - Ignominious are such as are designed principally to
expose the patient to the contempt and scorn of the
spectators: causing him to be deemed unworthy of the
society of his former friends. They may be attended
with a little corporal pain or not as it may happen.

- Penitentiary Penitentiary are such as are calculated to excite in
the patient the sense of shame by exposing him in
some degree to the censure of those who come to be
apprised of them but not to such a degree as to cause
him to be deemed unworthy of the society of his former
friends: being no more than what are affectionatea father has power
to inflict on his children and what an affectionate father
would not scruple to inflict on athe child he loves: for
which reason they may might also be termed Quasi-parental.
