Punishments
Pillar of Disgrace
The Pillar of Disgrace is a plain round Pillar
supporting an emblematical painting, representing
Infamy flying the face of Virtue.
Infamy is represented by a young man covering
his face with his hands and running
from a house; at the door of which stands
virtue in the character of a venerable old man with
one hand stretched forth in a repelling attitude,
warning him away.
