The Child-Deserter's Penance.

The Culprit shall be made to stand upon the pedestal of disgrace.
About his neck shall be hung the recogn images of naked children
as big large as the life, the number according to the
number of children he deserted.

On the pedestal shall be this inscription:
"He who deserts his children is a scandal to his
"parents."
"The deserter of his children abjuring the dictates of
"reason and natural affection, to follow the or takes pattern by
"of the Ostrich."

At his right hand shall be the figure of an
Ostrich standing on a pedestal with its beak close to the culprit's ear.

On this the pedestal shall be this inscription:
"The ostrich droppeth his egg in the sand, and careth
"not what becometh of his young".

On his left shall be the figure of
a Tygress suckling her young, with this pedestal inscription
on the pedestal:
"The most savage of all brutes is affectionate
"to her children offspring."
