Evils of Imprisonmt: and loss of Condition domestic
EVILS OF IMPRISONMENT.
I. Of SIMPLE IMPRISONMENT
1. – Privation of the liberty of beholding an
unlimited variety of rural objects, and other
objects that afford amusement to the eye
and imagination. Loss of simple or
general Pleasures.
2. – Of taking pleasurable exercises that
require an unconfined space; such as riding
on horseback, or in a carriage, hunting,
shooting; playing at cricket, Golf, Bowls c.
Loss of Simp. Organ. Pleasures.
3. – Of exercising any function of Magistracy
of which the exercise is limited to a certain
place, or any public trust: for instance in
this country that of Justice of the Peace,
Commissioner of the Land Tax, Comm: of Turnpikes,
Vestryman, Corporator, Parliamentary
Elector &c. Loss of Pleasures
of Power – Pleas. of the Imagination
4. – Of partaking of public diversions
attached to a particular place, such as,
Races, Plays, Concerts, Balls, &c. Loss of Simp. Organ. Pleasures & Pleasures
of the Imagn.
5.
– Of putting one's self in the way of
chance opportunities of taking pleasure.
viz: any Pleasure whatever.
6.
6. – Of taking journies which may occasionally
become requisite for the purpose
of preserving health: for instance for the
benefit of sea-bathing, or drinking
waters: of an air more pure than common:
or of particular medical advice.
Choice of Simple organical Pains.

7. – or abridgement of the liberty of
carrying on business for a livelyhood.
Loss of Pleasures of possession and expectation.
8.
8. – Of putting one's self in the way of
accidental opportunities of advancing one's
fortune; such as buying bargains, procuring
customers, placing out money, gaining
friends by good offices, making advantageous
matches for one's self, one's
children, &c. Loss of the chance of
Pleasures of Possession and Expectation.
9.
9. – Or abridgment of the liberty of
enjoying agreeable Society & conversation;
such as that of relations, friends and
acquaintance. Loss of Pleasures of
Recollection, Imagination, & Sympathy.

II. Of AFFLICTIVE IMPRISONMENT.

1. – Confinement to disagreeable

with the promiscuous assemblage
of one's fellow prisoners.
