Rationale of Reward. Official Aptitude &c?

To the details, I see no objection worth mentioning. Not
so as to the conclusion drawn from them at the time.
To know whether the invention is a good one or a bad,
See Mahomet's tables of brass, containing a statement of every
thing that is to happen, till after eternity is at an end.
Good everywhere in one event, it is had everywhere in
another event. First in a pure Monarchy. Good if
doom to lay prostrate till the end of time under
that millstone: for as above, the alleviation: bad if
the pressure is to end earlier: for the more universal it is
the sooner will all
So again in a mixt Monarchy. Good if by any such
glaring in addition to the corruption men are
to rise & extinguish it so much the earlier:
bad if by the intoxication they are kept stupefied so much
the longer.
As to anything of the sort that would have place in a Representative
democracy, simple in each of the Anglo American States,
compound as in all together, it may be left to those who amuse
themselves with the inapplicable parts of the Mathematics.
A fragment of the scale in question may be seen in the English
House of Lords: and it there serves as a cement of supererogation of
that internal Holy Alliance which has so little need of it. In the
reign of George the third, the value set upon it was manifested: to wit
when the order of Marquisses, which by the death of the Marquis of
Rockingham had been was so copiously replenished.
