Rationale of Reward. Promises for Official Aptitude &c
Written 1828 March 4.
§.1. Scale of Ranks
Rationale of Reward
Amendments real or supposed.(a)
§.1. Catherine and her Scale of Ranks.(b)
B.I. Ch. 2. Matter of Reward – Service
"As to Catherine and her scale of ranks"
(said I to my English Translator, as in his Preface)
"they rank not with me quite so high now as then."
As to the Empress herself, she belongs not
to the present purpose.
(a)
"Catherine's Scale of Ranks – Pensions of Retreat." –
On the occasion of the lately published Rationale of Reward,
as per Advertisement "let us have your present
thoughts" (said my English Editor). The request was
natural: The enjoyment promise of compliance, improvident.
What will here be found will not pay for
the time which if not expended on it, could have been applied to a
more important purpose.
(b) See B.I. Ch. 2. Matter of Reward – Services.
