Rationale of Rewards
☞ 1828 Jany 25. Quere whether to insert the matter of this? Certainly
not in this form.
Note (b.) to p.185: – Quere whether not superseded by Editor's advertisemt.
(b.) Dear Editor, what a mess we are got into here: what
have the critics been about that they have not pulled
us to pieces? Look back, turn to B.1. Ch. 2 – see the land
we have there been bestowing upon Catherine the 2d's
graduated scale of ranks. So many find things one
above another, what are they turned to! draughts upon
us for so many piles of gold, or else incentives
to those crimes upon crimes of which History, as often
as we take the trouble to ask her, will inform us.
Dear Editor see what you can do: for my part, I
am either utterly unable to answer these draughts, all or
any of them. See how I have been protesting them –
protesting them over and over again in my Defences
of Economy against Burke and Rose.
