Modes of chronicality

For examples of the modes causes from in what a any officer
is capable of becoming chronical take the following

1. Continually<add> illegal continuty</add> The act itself a continuing one: as in the case of
imprisonment

2. Continuity of The intention to committ the illegal act. This applies
to all cases offences considered as being such in tendency:
viz. to preparations and attempts be the
nature of the offence alone insinuated

3. Continuity from the negative quality of the act.
non-payment of a debt: yet riddance non performance of any other
service

4. Existence of a habit correspondent to the act
From the consideration of acts of an act of any sort
considered as being frequently repeated by the same person
a number of individual acts of the same species and denomination
being frequently successfully committed by him is formed the sort
of fictitious framed for the convenience
of speech and called a habit: frame factitious it
can not but be since independently over and above of the acts in question
it has not any real or separate or real existence
eed so in the case of a correspondent disposition by which is meant
a supposed future probable habit.

An instance of an offence particularly apt to become
chronical in this mode is the offence of drunkenness: one of those a self
regarding offences which supposing it not productive of any other
includes mor in it its own punishment.
