authentic intelligence &c, the sale of it might be
pushed beyond that of any other paper.

That there might be no palpable ground for charging
the paper with ministerialism, it might
be proper to insert with the same readiness
any or both in any antiministerial letters
that might be offer'd as well as ministerial. A
more conspicuous proof of impartiality could not
be given. Nor would it counteract the main
design: since if they did not make their appearance
here they would elsewhere, it were best
they should appear here, where they might be

The great mischief that is done by the Incendiary
Newspapers is done not near so much by letters as by
paragraphs. Letters appear upon the face of them
to contain nothing more than the sentiments
of some unknown and nameless writer. Paragraphs
contain upon the face of them the sentiments
and assertions of the Manager who is
a politician and a patriot by profession, whose
words are oracles, and who preaches as it were
ex cathedrâ to the gaping multitude. This is
so well known to be the case, that puffs, and
election squibs and other such advertisements
pay beyond comparison more in the shape of
paragraphs than they do on their own.
