Memorial
What is said in the way of commendation might, for
divine be applied with less reserve to the person
of his Majesty himself, than to any Minister.
14.
It would probably have a good effect to those
communicate through this channel such anecdotes respecting his
Majesty as would ever to his
his Majesty's personal character better known
than it is at present, anecdotes respecting the manner
in which he spends his time, his attention to business,
his domestic felicity: the harmony that reigns
between him & the Queen – their management of
the royal children. Nothing could contribute more
powerfully to conciliate by degrees the affections of the
people, and to dissipate those prejudices against
his Majesty's conduct which have been installed
with such malignant industry.
15.
Occasions might be taken from hence to draw parallels
between passages of his Majesty's character and conduct
and correspondent passages on the character and conduct
of other sovereigns dead & living, but particularly the
latter. This in might it should seem be no despicable means of conciliating the affections of the people
when they are the companion so much to his Majesty's
advantage.
16.
As a means of one reconciling the people to the expences of the Civil
Cost
it might be of use to show how much greater the
proportion of the private expences of the Sovereign
to the total expenditure of the state is in France
that it is in England.
