however safe it might safety it might be done in any given instance, is
upon the whole a price of confidence which for the sake of the precedent, by no means
to be recommended. It would be setting a bad precendent.
That credulity which reports to it spend
The shape
of credulity thus seen planted as it were and the minds
in the minds of the people by a man of rare
integrity, would grow into a thick cover, under
which the interested practices of men of ordinary
mould would find shelter flourish in impunity. Were measurements Innocence that when it stifles
or avoids investigation, does but
confound its lineaments with those of guilt. This
being the case, all is mighty well so long long as it is
long as innocence and innocence only appeared
upon

be singular indeed (would it be) if the
