To stand well with parliament – with that assembly
in which is comprized no doubt a very large
share of the most dignified & respectable respectable as well as powerful members of the
community is certainly the noblest as well as most important
object of a ministers ambition. I have There is, his great Theatre. To please there is
his first interest and his highest honour. But to
suppose that within the of parliamentary men
and their immediate and particular acquaintances
every man is comprized whose good opinion is
either of importance in an interested view or reflects in point either of interest or reputation of importance to
a Minister, would be an a notion as
mistaken in itself as it would be injurious to
the great body of the people.

To (the esteem of) Parliament indeed, or at least of
the most virtuous & respectable part of that assembly,
such a conduct may be sufficient to (recommend
him) ensure his popularity, to that degree with which
is necessary sufficient to enable him to carry on his business
smoothly.
