more & more into measures calculated as he thinks to guard him against

And to what is all this owing? —
Accused incessantly at the bar of the public he lets judgment go against him by default: he says
nothing in his defence. What wonder if he is condemned?

How then should he seek to help
himself? There are but two ways. To answer himself
