The business of education includes the business
of filling up in some way providing occupations of
one kind or other for filling up in some way or
other the time of the individual to be educated.

In saying the time, I mean the whole time, that
the portion allotted to sleep itself not excepted: for
sleep though not an exercise can not be refused denied
to come under to be included under the name of an
occupation.

Under the idea head of occupations may be included
besides the function of taking the necessary refreshments
of food and sleep, lucrative employments
1. Lucrative employments
2. Exercises, or athletic occupations
3. Studies or library occupations – and
4. Diversions or Amusements, or Relaxations.

By the On the above mention of this list of occupations,
objections in the form of questions seem to present themselves.

1. Has Can the idea of lucre, of the constraint attended to
the labour but without which nothing of lucre, nothing of profit
can arise, can any such severity have place in
so early a period of human infantine existence.

2. Has Art, has education which be is an Art, any
thing to do with the business of exercises considered only
as such – Will not Nature, if left to herself provide exercise
in abundance.

3. Is study of any kind competent to the situation of this
lowest class of subjects?

4. Has Art – has education which is an Art, any thing to
do
