Note from p.4.

(1) Sleep is not life, but the cessation of life temporary
death: if without dreaming, death followed by annihilation:
if occupied by dreams, death followed by resurrection in
another world. Lying abed without sleep is a habit
pernicious to health productive of be relaxation, and thence
pernicious to bodily health: and, in as far as it is
idleness, pernicious to moral health.

Note from p.5.

(2) In particular both sides of the body should share
alike in the benefit of exercise as well as n the burther:
otherwise the limb on one side will perish by fatigue
often have been rendered weak by fatigue, while the limb on the other side remains has been remaining
weak the for want of exercise. This equality
however will not be easy to effect preserve: inequality
is a much more natural result. Thus as between hand
and hand, whichever hand happens to have obtained
most exercise has obtained the advantage in point of

which other is scarce ever
employ'd except where the object happens to be decidedly the exertion requisite being slight, it

both hands to be employ'd. Hence Right-handed
