which come in competition with it, no
encrease in the total of expence
would (it is evident) form any
objection in point of economy, of to
this mode: but till this arrival
of that period, unless the arrival
of it should appear tolerably certain
and not very remote, it is
equally evident that an encrease
in the total of expence will form
an objection in point of economy
to this mode, notwithstanding any
little reductions that may take
place in the rate of expence per
head.
To judge How the prospect stands
in relation to this point, may appear
in some measure from the following
comparison between the two half-
periods.

Committee proceeded as follows.
Dividing the average yearly expence
of the first half- period £70,104:2s:5d
by the average of the number which on the preceding
supposition would have been
annually provided for during the course of
that period 1442 (2883 ÷ 2) we have for the
rate of expence per head during
this first half period......
Dividing again the average yearly
total of expence of the second half
period £102,769:19s:10d by the average
of the number which on the same
supposition would have been provided
for during the course of the period
(which
£48:12:3 3/4.
