If we take the expence of the
last If, instead of the expence of
an average Year of the last half
period, we take the expence of the
last year of all, as a sample of
what is to be expected in future
years, the rise in the rate of
expence per head will appear
considerably still greater.
Actual expenditure of this last Year
(comprised of the general expence
£120,372:4s:8d 3/4 with the addition
of this annual part of the naval
expence viz: 5720 together)
Rate of expence per head upon
this supposition £126,292:4:8 3 ÷ 3070—41:2s:8d.
will give the rate of expence
If we add to this £5995 being a proportionable the fourth part
of four years that portion of the
naval expence incurred within
those four or five years which is
over and above the annual, the
(viz. 5995 / 126292:4s:8d 3/4
= £122287:13s:5d 3/4) Rate of expence
upon this supposition will be
(£132,287:13s:5d ÷ 3070) will be—£43:1s:8d 1/2.
If to this proportionable part of the
naval expence of the four or five last years
we substitute, as before a proportionable part
of the expence of the whole 12 years
(£140,621:4:11d ÷ 12=) £11,718:8s:8d 3/4
the rate of expence upon this supposition
will be (£137,810:13:5 1/2 ÷ 5070)—£44:17s:9d 1/4.
