A circumstance that can not
fail to make an addition to the
annual expence to the amount of
£ |^^^| a year and thence a
proportionable addition to the rate of
expence per head is the encrease
that has taken place in the rate
per man of the naval establishment
throughout the service.
In the Treasury account, the annual
part of the naval expence
is stated at the old rate of £4
a month: it is now £7. At
£4 the expence is £5720 a year as above:
at £7 it will be £10,000: difference
4290. This difference will come to
be added to the annual total of
expence at any rate. It will raise
the £126,292.4s:8d 3/4 to £130582: 128,592:4s:8d8 3/4;
the £132,287:13:5 3/4 to £136577:13s:5 3/4;
and the £137,810:13:5 1/2 to £142,100:13:5 1/2
giving respectively for the rate of expence
per head £42:10:8 1/4, £44:9s.8d
and £46:5s:8d.
