The Treasurer and other Benchers of the Honourable
Society of Lincolns Inn

The Petition of Jeremy Bentham Esquire Barrister
at Law and Member of the said Inn humbly sheweth

1. That Your Petitioner under the customs and
ordinances of the Honble Society Your Petitioner is
according to the customs of the said Society Tenant for life (with liberty of assignment) and of the Chambers situate on No
6 the
on the second floor of No 6 in the Old
Buildings viz. on the left hand of the on going up
the staircase: which said Chambers were formerly in
the occupation of Your Petitioner, and are now in the
occupation of John Fonblanque Esquire, one of
his Majesty's Counsel learned in the law.

2. That, on the 25th of October 1807, the said Chambers having become vacant by
the quitting of the Hon. Treasury Board, Your Petitioner
received from the said Mr Fonblanque a note of that date postponing continuing an
expression of a wish t on his part to become Tenant
of the same: and that a few days afterwards in
virtue of an a verbal agreement, made between them and Your
Petitioner, made between through the medium of John Herbert Koe Esquire,
Student, of this Honourable Society, as Agent for Your
Petitioner on the one part and the said Mr Fonblanque
by himself through the medium of a person who at that
time acted and still continues to act as Clerk to
the said Mr Fonblanque, (but whose name is not known to Your Petitioner) on the other part, he the said Mr Fonblanque he became Tenant at
will of the said Chambers, under Your Petitioner, according to the customs
of this Honourable Society.
