After having given some striking illustrations of the
used & abuse of language he thus concludes the passage
by saying
Where exemplifications are not given, the mind has nothing
to grasp and the principles make no impression
or soon escape from memory. Exemplification are of the
nature of proofs, and unless the statement of principles
are accompanied by these proofs not only will assent be
withheld; but their absence invites the ignorant or the interested
to attack them and enables the assistants to
expel them successfully from the popular beliefs.—
