Rule of Comprehensiveness
advantages of
observing it

Advantages of trying a number at a time.
1st It saves expence in materials. In this way one may make One ship may serve for 20
experiments; instead of being at the expence of
20 ships.

2. The result of the experiment will be surer:
the circumstances in which the several articles that on
are the the experiments are tried being precisely
the same.

3. It saves expence in labour. One person may
superintend 20 experiments, instead of havingthere being 20
men employ'd for the same purpose.

4. They are more likely to be well conducted turned to profit. When
the conducting them is made the special business of the a
particular man or set of men, they are more likely to be better
attended to than when they come in by the bye, & out
of the ordinary line of duty. They are also more likely to
engage the attention of those persons in superior departments
to whom it belongs to inspector in chief.

5. If they succeed They are more likely to be turned to profit. When
collected as is were into a body they are there likely to gress occupy
a greater share of the attention of those on whom within whose
department it has to order than to be adopted carried
into practise.
