Dream
As I was musing one night in flew an angel flew
in at my window: I forget his name — but it
would be as easy to learn it in heaven where
he is as well known for the implacable
enmity he bears to the daemon of chicane
as St Michael is by the battles he has had
with Satan. He put into my hands a book, which
he said he had just been writing with the
quill of a phoenix: It had it was letter'd on the back with
Principles of Legislation: I had no occasion
to eat it he said, as St John did his:
all I had to do was to cram it down as well as I could the
throats of other people: (they would it had
the true flavour of the fruit of the tree of [knowledge]
good & evil
One day as I was musing over this book
moreover there came unto me by a
great man named Ld J. and he said unto
me, what shall I do to save the nation?
be saved? , I had forgot, continued he I must
not talk of my self — I mean to save the
nation? I said unto him take up my book, & follow me.
