J.B. for Henderson to Gullet
afforded me the most convincing proofs, the General
thinking I dare say as I did that Mr Henderson
had a large concern in the affair, thinking in order of
course that he was serving Mr Henderson, constitutes
himself your agent. He applies to a variety
of people: to every body that be thought likely to
engage in the concern. All this proves ineffectual: nobody will meddle
with it: nobody will sink £5,000 guineas
nor any thing like £5,000 guineas (which I do
not wonder at nor I believe you neither) on such
a bottom. Despairing of everybody else, you in entreat
Mr Henderson as a last resource [+] so early as the 9th of
June 1784 to apply once
more to Mr Blair, telling him of the improving
prospect of the mine, and offering ing to which take
four thousand guineas instead of five. Mr Henderson
is surely surely now your agent: or no man
ever was of anothers. As such he brings paysin order to remove
the samples of Mr Blair, & never been more trouble persuade him to what he had
before refused, he sets out post from London and travels pays another
visit to the spot. He spend travels upwards
of 400 miles, and spends eleven days,
four of them spent employ'd upon the mine. In the course
of these four days you find means to make use of employ his
talents in another way. He planns improvements
in the machinery employ'd for drawing water, and
they are executed under his direction. What other
advantages you may have derived from 4 days
intercourse with this most intelligent and communicative
