1790
Marquis of Lansdowne to D. de Rochefoucauld
The object of his ambition as I understand
is to see his offering translated by order
of the Assembly and printed for the use of
the Members: for it is in this way only that
he can take his full chance for being of
use. If his going over pre for the purpose
of giving explanation and answering objections
could contribute to that end, I am sure he
would obey the same commands of the Assembly
with all readiness to that purpose with the utmost readiness: but
I am equally sure that he would not neither expect nor accept
any reward not so much as an indemnification
for his expence.
