Usuary Preface
The first impression of this tract having
been some time exhausted the Bookseller
demands of me a second.
I would take this opportunity of answering
objections in what would cost me as
little acknowledging their force & I saw
any that appeared to call for such acknowledgement.
But I have neither been
able to collect any objection nor any
thing that so much as pretended to that
character. From all quarters I have been
able to collect but one opinion and that
opinion has exceeded my most sanguine
expectations
Yet the laws against usury maintain
their ground and may yet maintain it
for many years: for between the loosening
of the foundations of an inveterate prijudice,
especially a prejudice doubly rooted
in politics the deepest recesses of and morality, and the removaloverthrowing
of the superstructure, there is a long
and dismal interval: in this time the observation
