Regulation of heat by pressure - Obtaining
a receptacle in which the degree of heat may
be kept up for any length of time to a regulated
pitch within certain limits, by means of
the degree of pressure to which an elastic fluid
with which the receptacle is filled is kept subjected

If the receptacle Keep the receptacle for instance a still constantly
supplied with a liquid sufficient in quantity and
proper in quality to supply the elastic fluid steam
by the pressure of which the heat is to be regulated.
Let the receptacle still into a chamber receiver
as compleatly exhausted as may be [+]:- Close the [+] and which the elastic fluid or vapour steam may be condensed
opening with a valve. [+]2 The valve being open [+] Expell from the receptacle and so from the exhausted receiver the whole stock of atmos common air or other incondensible elastic fluid naturally incumbent on the liquid in the still.
the steam fluid will be formed into steam and
distilled over with a degree of heat much
less than would be necessary under the pressure
of the atmosphere: say, instead of 212, 96.
If then there be no pressure upon the valve
the steam will find its way th out of the still
through the valve into the receiver as soon as the
degree of heat in the receiver has risen to 96:after
which whatever further degree of heat is produced
will be applied to the as fast as produced to the
production of steam and carried off with the steam
into the Receiver. Load the valve oppose resistance
