4 3 Effectuation Simple contact. The presence of air is an
obstruction to many processes which consist in the
bringing about a an uniformly close, though
simple contact, betwixt body and body: whither
junction by colusion, or configuration after reparation
be the result intended.

Hence the presence of expulsion of the air
will may be made to give facility to the operation
of coating the surfaces of metals, skins, glasses,
pottery wood, horn, ivory, bone or other hard substances
with lamina, melted of or unmelted, of metal
or other materials: as in plating tinning, gilding, silvering
painting, varnishing and the like

So likewise to the operation of casting,
whither of metals, glasses, wax, plaster of paris
papier maché, miscellaneous compositions, or
any other matters materials simple or compound capable
of being dissolved either in the dry or burned away
of being made fluid or ductile by fusion solution
or otherwise
