Prizes

Privateers are they ever employed in conjunction with Kings Ships?
Supposed yes. The would appear provision. See Robinson
Statute not any be without

To each of these four classes of persons a separate Statute
instrument should be ought to have been allotted.

As on the occasion of a conjunct expedition, seamen
receiving assistance from Land men will find them admitted
a share with them in which the matter of reward
intimation to this effect can pr conveyed in about
as many words as here would form a proper article in
a Seaman's : are so vice versâ in the Landsman's.

This brief intimation excepted, no one of these form
of prizes hav had any need of being burthened in
or in pocket or in money with anything that
to be any one of the other. Except that these Seamen have need to be apprized where Soldiers & Privateers thus share with them.

To compleat the title of the several classes of public servants
in question, and consequently to compleat the body of information
necessary for their case, the Kings Proclamation spoken of in these Statutes
the Proclamation by which the shares of captors of different descriptions
of Captors Co-Captors are
associated would be
require to be inserted
in the Code. To what
end thus was the
rule of action in that
thus torn into disjointed
fragments?
Probably for the sake
of preserving to this
or that official personage
his accustomed or
coveted profit emolument in the
shape of fees. But
whether the delineation
be use f pernicious or
useful, the simple
classes of men here
in question have nothing
to do with those any such constitutional
and technical
distinctions,
ought not to be or
kept in ignorance by any
such official and technical distinctions.

A fifth Code should be Matter for a fifth Code
have been furnished by the provisions respecting
Prize Agents.

For their principal object the provisions that belong of this group
are the prevention of the losses and losses delays and vexations which Seamen in respect of prize and bounty
money otherwise called head money but more particularly
prize money, Kings Seamen, Soldiers and Privateers
share
but principally King's Seamen as exposed to
from rapacity and negligence but principally
from rapacity on the part of Agents.

In respect of these provisions the three classes of
favoured by the law as above are favoured as principals
and for their own sake; possibly in laws and thus in a
with need of action on their part. But by far the greater part for the most
part without any such need: and so far as concerns
part, instead of the text of this part of the Code in terminus
a brief, a very brief
intimation, would if
accompanied with proper
references, suffice.
