20 Decr 1810
Prize Acts of 1805 & 1809

To both these On this occasion The case where the condemning
judicatory was is the High Court of Admiralty – the
same place of sale of the business consequently in or in the neighbourhood
of the metropolis the business of notification
so far at least as concerns the time of intended payment
was plain sailing. Every common Seaman, every
Mariner every common Soldier is a regular
reader of the that London Gazette: in that amusing and
instructive miscellany the notification was and is accordingly in this
case to be inserted: which done it met and meets
their eyes of course.

The case that put the genius ingenuity by which the exertions of both
the legislator were in both instances strained to the their utmost
stretch and the ingenuity of the legislator less mature of the earlier
period foiled, was that where the same lies within
the jurisdiction of one of those subordinate Courts called
Vice Admiralty Courts.

In this emergency case the first business is to look find
if there be such a thing,
for a newspaper current in the place: in this case this done
under the consolidation Act the Agent get three copies
under the succeeding Act he gets instead of the three
six copies, of the Newspaper, into which he has
taken previous care to have the requisite notice of the time of
intended payment inserted, and distributes them having so done disposes
of them
according to the directions given in the Act: viz. one
he transmitts to the Treasurer of Greenwich Hospital; another
to the Treasurer or Paymaster of the Navy; and the third
he keeps himself in his own custody, after subscribing it with his name.(a)
(a) No provision for his its
keeping being kept in his Office
after his death or departure.
