Where once a portion of literary matter, wearing
the form of an Act of Parliament, has receive the touch
of the legislative sceptre, sense is nonsense, it rests
with anyone to extract from some judicatory or other
an interpretation for it: sense or nonsense, some effect
or other, is then in that case event and to in that way produced by it.
Thus much is true. But from this truth no such
proposition follows, as that in the penning of an Acts of Parliament
sense is not preferable to nonsense, symmetry
to disorder inconsistency confusion, thought to the absence of thought
carefulness to carelessness, knowledge to ignorance,
strength of mind to imbecillity, aptitude to inaptitude.
