But grammar is one thing: time, in this consolidating
Act, not to speak of the amending Act which
amends it, is another thing⊞ ⊞ Legislating is pari materiâ,
Act 1809. §. 13. line 42 In England .... by The Minister and one
"of the Churchwardens" says the amending Act: "and if
"in Scotland, (continues the same) by the Minister
"and one of the Elders of the Parish or Place in which"
(speaking of one Order) "such person shall reside
"at the time of making such Order": thus saith the
amending Act avoiding to indeed the ambiguity and uncertainty presented
by the amended Act, but as usual having it in this with this
as well as all its other imperfections in its head in this and every part unrepented.
Admitted Provided always that if of such Churchwarden
or such Elder as well of such Minister it should be
the good fortune to know that this consolidating Act
have had the benefit of being amended and thus amendedreceived the benefit of the amending Act, were of this amending Act
and together with the to purchase and the
patience to read the same, whatsoever perplexity
it may happen to him to have been involved by the
amended Act, be in comparison made of the two, he
a chance may not be altogether wanting to him, for
obviating himself from such perplexity by the light
thrown upon the subject by the amending Act.
