§. 97
As soon as this pair of Bills "shall be so made
out and signed (no if in a Book under an adequate set of heads an entry had first been
of their contents) the Treasurer .... shall cause "them"
(it is said) "to be cut asunder indentwise, through the
"oblique lines, flourishes or devices aforesaid".
12. The Treasurer .... "shall" thereupon (it is said)
"cause one of the said Bills to be transmitted forthwith
"to the person nominated and appointed as
"the Payer in such Bills".
N.B. Payer is the word as printed in the authentic
edition of the Act, Payee but Payer but Payee
is the word that it appears from the context must
have been intended. An This iron which until discovered
and in the conception of a reader corrected renders
the whole provision unintelligible, is not among the
imperfections which in the course of the amending
Act of 1809 received the benefit of the amending hand.
13. The other duplicate "shall" (it is said) "be forthwith
"transmitted forthwith to the" person drawn upon as
above: (the person drawn upon being
the repetition of the string being thereafter hereinafter employed toties quoties in the description
of the person drawn upon.)
14. If produced to him if in Great Britain
within 6 months from the date, if in Ireland within 9 months
the person drawn upon is "enjoyned to examine such
"duplicate, together with the Certificate to be produced
"as aforesaid" (i.e. certificate mentioned in the Form of which
below) and to enquire into the truth thereof by the Oath
of the person producing the same (Power to administer
the Oath, with saving as usual for the case of a Quaker.)
