Prize 1805 1809: 1085 §. 100
As to reasons on the present occasion occasion
it was as no less unreasonable to expect any as than on the occasion
just above mentioned.
As to those which the nature of the case they be
not much deeper beneath the surface in this case
than in that other.
Give a man fees – fees to be received at the expence of individuals
in whose instance profit or loss depends on the exercise
art he makes of the power which the relation between
his situation and theirs has lodged in his hand – power
of vexing thence more or less as he finds convenient –
Give a man fees receivable by him under such circumstances,
you give him if render it, if it be
within in his power his interest to give the utmost encrease possible encrease to
the quantum of those fees each fee – to the fee receivable
on each occasion, and whether that be or be not in
his power to give the utmost encrease possible to the
number of occasions in which such fees shall be by the payable
burthen by himself receivable by himself: and for the assurance, or the chance
of so giving such encrease to the number of those occasions
giving correspondent encrease to whatsoever quantum
of delay and vexation is may happen to be naturally and unavoidably
attached to the business.
It is to reward suffered to be extended in this same
shape and from the correspondent source that England we are
is indebted to that system of procedure made manufactured by
Judges for the benefit of themselves and their connections partners
whatever of their trade by which in point of time years
are substituted to hours, and in point of expense pounds
to pence or shillings.
