V. Lastly, in the case of the sanction of Sympathy, or
sympathetic sanction, the source or root of the pleasure
or pain, regarded as eventually about to have
place is the experienced on the occasion
the occasion in which the any pleasure or pain appertaining
to this sanction is capable of being experienced
is, where in consequence of some act which the person
in question has it in contemplation to exercise – the a
consequence regarded as about to result in pleasure
or pain in any shape as the case may be in
the breast of some other person to in whose well-being
the person in question feels experiences an interest
produced by the force of sympathy sympathetic affection: in proportion in tis case, in the joint
of to the force with which that affection operates in his
breast added to the magnitude of the pleasure or
pain which a is regarded by him as result

the event of his exercising the act in question is

to exercise or forbear to exercise such act: to exercise
