III. Case, or State of things the second third. The particles of wealth
about to go out of the possession hands of the two parties.

9. or 1. By the substraction or say non-addition
of a particle of the matter of wealth a less unhap substraction from
of un happiness will be produced is made from the wealth of
him who has the matter of abundance only than if from him
the wealth of him who has the matter of subsistence only.

10. or 2. So, if from the wealth of him who has
a larger portion of the matter of abundance than if from the
wealth of him who has not so large a portion of the matter of
abundance.

11 or 3. Fortunes equal and the aggregate some being given The greater the number of
the persons from whose wealth the substraction is made, the less
will be the substraction thereby made from the aggregate of happiness.

12 or 4. Fortunes unequal Still less will be the substraction of happiness
if it be be in the ratio of their fortunes that the substraction
is made, the greatest quantity so to being substracted from
those whose fortunes are greatest.

13 or 5. If, on this or that occasion a quantity for this or that purpose
it becomes necessary that a given for this quantity
of the matter of wealth requires to be substracted by the legislator
