after revision by Mr Att:y General by order from the
Treasury which lies there ready to be signed whenever
this Contract shall be ready for signature.
Art 4 §° 9 — Answer to Mr Soll. Gen:ls Query The
Act 24 Geo: 3. was a temporary act: it was continued
by 28 Geo: 3. C — 24. to the Session of 1794: and it is
believed to have received a further continuation in that
year: but the answer cannot be made positive at the
moment for want of the Statutes of that year.
Should a reference to the continuations be deemed necessary,
Mr Soll. Gen. is humbly requested to make
the insertion in the proper mode: if not necessary he
will be pleased to cancel the query. Mr B. (at a
distance from all authorities) humbly apprehends that
it is not necessary, for that it is immaterial to
the purpose in question whether the Act of the 24
Geo: 3. be in force or no. The Act of the 34th referred to
it only for the description of certain powers, which by
its own authority it (the Act of 34) meant to give:
that description stands equally clear & equally capable
of answering its purpose whether the Act referred to
remained in force, or had ceased to be in force, or had never
been in force: as if for instance it had been an Act of
the Irish Parliament or any still more Foreign
Government: such as that of the Pope's from whose
laws the description of the Calendar now in use was taken
