Bentham's endeavours are to shew to the Government soon after this
Establishment has begun to act work, the from
the different productions. I consider that it will useful
to place in conformity with what has been stated as above, the different
Establishments which are now at the Admiralty, as the
manufacture of Medical Philosophical, Optical, Mathematical & Instruments copied
for Medicine, Physicic, Optics, Mathematics: Compasses, Typograph
Manufactories of Sails, & . – All these establishments
will necessarily require to be removed, & had it not been for
so good an opportunity would have been very troublesome & costly.
He thinks adviseable also to establish a Tannerie as soon
as the Institution is opened, to prepare leather
for making pumps, & boots & shoes, but which
. sail Manufacting Sewing of sails & of cloathing
in general & carpentering, & generally all works which
are chiefly most useful required for the shipping fleet & private vessels, and
even ships themselves ay be built.
In order that the practical part of the Acts &
Manufactories at which the pupils of the Institute's are
to be employed should be based a sufficient theory, besides
ready & Linear Drawing, Physics & Mathematics
will be taught, & assuredly with great advantage, as on account of multitude the number
of physical effects & the application of mathematical calculations
furnished by the different works, thus Theory will always be
proved by Practice – Of course all the Pupils will
