Ding dong, went the tocsin of the law. From pillar Tost

be it as it may with Christianity in its original form, in

parcel of the law of the land Particulars, particulars of this is but too true. Lengthy of course was the
vibrations. are Particulars of it are not remembered: nor matters it that they
should be. What is remembered is – that while reading and musing
the Dæmon of Chicanea Chicanea appeared to me in all his hideousness.
What followed? I abjured his empire. I vowed
war against his. My vow has been fulfilled accomplished. With
what effect, will be acknowledged when I owe no more
Gratitude, to those him who have has will of mankind, is never
wanting, when he profit by the fruits of it is impossible.
But now comes opens another scene.
Lover of Justice, I was not less a lover of Loyalty:
and between those two powers had place in my breast for no
short length of time no small strife. At length Fate
took in hand the scales: Justice preponderant: Loyalty
kicks the beam. Understand always by Loyalty, that which one who
has for her object No one: for between her and the other, which has whose object
for object is composed of the all and their welfare, the unlikeness unlikeness is not
less than that between black and white.
