To the risk I am running I am not altogether
insensible. Looking to the highest criminal bench,
there I see sitting a Judge by whom for this marks
of disapprobation applied to the character of a
dead king John Hunt was consigned to a
prison for two years and mulcted by a heavy fine of
£ without inquiry regard into the effect it
might have on his pecuniary circumstances.
Looking a little lower there I see sitting an
Attorney-General by whom Alexander in the
character of a Newspaper Editor after
having been punished before trial and so far
without trial with a mulct in the shape
of costs to the amount of £sd
(if the report I have heard is to be believed),
and the correspondent vexation attached
to litis-contestational defence was called upon to
suffer a second time in the event and through
the means of a trial brought on by the species of
accusation styled an ex-officio information
