War the 2d of Continuation
of War the 1st whichsoever
the reader pleases:- war made by
the subject on the king by the endeavour employed made
to give increase to the happiness
by giving increase to the goodness of the
government of a neighbouring nation.
The French Revolution had begun.
The first of the three National Assemblies
was at work. Amongst other operations was
that of the institution of a new Judiciary establishment.
A Committee appointed for that
purpose was sitting – it had produced for that
purpose a draught – in French Law language a
projet de loi – in English Law language a bill –
a copy I forget how, nor is it material to
remember, found its way into my hands with my hands came within my reach.
I took it in hand & wrote a comment upon
it. I printed a translation, accompanied through
with what the Editor of the productions of what
are called the classical times stile a perpetual
commentary – followed by dissertations
on the several topics in it that presented
themselves. ☞ here enumerate
the titles. I continued in habit with the
first Marquis of Lansdowne of It is the work
to which reference has every now & then been made in this or that
periodical but in none so frequently as in the Morning
Chronicle – In the hands of the richly talented Editor of which
a copy has had place for many years last past.
