An introductory A letter from the English Marquis to the
French Duke went at the same time of course.
In process of time came an answer to it. In the
Chamber of the Legislature, (the Constituent Assembly
it was called* ☞ * Search to see whether this appellative is correct.) the Duke had made a motion
the object of the object of which was having for its object the causing a translation
to be made for the use of the Assembly
& when printed the impression of it to be referred
to the above mentioned Committee that such use
as it should be found to be fit for might be made
of it: the Abbé Liéges – the man of all work –
was at that time in the zenith of his influence:
the proposition of the Duke was put to the vote:
the Duke was outvoted by the Abbé – I have, or
at least have had somewhere, the Duke's letter
to my Noble friend Lord Lansdowne by whose kindness it was
made over to me.
