In this view of the matter it was of
no small importance to tame me and
keep me quiet and for that purpose
to the moment of my examination
to preserve from extinction what hope
I might have of seeing the determination
of the Committee favorable to me.
Between various of he parties concerned
in the conspiracy so for shortness let me
be permitted to call i without any
such intention as that of imputing
criminality to it (I leave that use of it
to learned Judges) between various parties
to the concert whatever may be the
appropriate name for it tokens not
a few presented themselves to my
observations: for whatsoever degree of
penetration it may have happened to
me to be in possession of it may
be imagined with what intense attention
it was on that occasion brought into action.
