In the course of my examination one
short passage there was which though couched
in the most decorous terms was felt as striking
home and was in truth not without intention
of producing that effect: my examination as
taken down in pursuance of the custom so
laudably established in that judicatory will
exhibit the passage to any eye that chances
to glance upon it: to a person at some distance
from him Mr Nepean who as above observed had
from first down to that time been my friend tipped
the wink as the phrase is; and the address
was followed by that sort of play of countenance
that showed the meaning import of it to have been
sufficiently understood.

In my way to the place
of examination two incidents had occurred both
of them pregnant with the same conclusion:
just as we had reached Great George Street Mr
Nepean being one of my two two companions
and Mr Wilberforce I am perfectly certain the
other, we met two persons in company with
